Emet Classical Academy is a Jewish preparatory school for 5th to 12th graders on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Our academic program focuses on the best of Western culture, the foundational ideas of Jewish civilization, and the advanced study of math, modern science, art, and music. The key responsibilities of this role will include the following:
Student Records
- Enroll students in classes and adjust registrations when necessary;
- Manage student portfolios, making sure they have all accurate information (transcripts from previous schools, evaluations, etc.)
- Set up report card template and advise teachers in the technical aspects of this process; send report cards to parents;
- Advise teacher on FACTS gradebook and attendance functions and assist Principal in monitoring gradebooks; track and record AM attendance and notify parents if students are not present or accounted for;
- Set up Parent/Teacher conferences in the fall and spring;
- Fully understand student schedule that is created by the Emet Principal, and assist in updates and communications with students/parents.
Operations
- Assist teachers with immediate and long-term needs:
- Order and track curricular materials;
- Maintain needed supplies in the office;
- Ensure the photocopier is working (service contact);
- Receive mail and distribute materials;
- Set up system for addressing facility concerns.
- Assist parents and students with immediate needs, such as:
- Answer phones in Emet office;
- Serve as the liaison with Or Zarua security staff;
- Assist parents in accessing key information;
- Assist students with needs including illness at school (following medication protocols, calling home, etc.)
- Coordinate and distribute Metro Cards for student transportation
- Organize busing and carpool service as needed.
- Assist when teachers are absent, including:
- In consultation with Principal, approach potential substitutes;
- Obtain lesson plans from absent teacher and send to substitute;
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including:
- Schedule emergency drills, lockdown drills, and related training and required reports;
- Maintain health records including up-to-date immunization forms from students.
Administrative Support
- Projects relating to operations, such as:
- Assist Principal with tasks related to Middle States Accreditation (includes organizational and graphic component)
- Description of the Emet curriculum, created in conjunction with Emet Principal and teachers.

Overview
Emet Classical Academy seeks a Middle and High School Judaics Teacher who brings intellectual seriousness, textual mastery, and a deep love of Jewish civilization. The ideal candidate will guide students through the central texts and ideas of the Jewish tradition while cultivating careful reading, thoughtful interpretation, and principled moral reflection.
This teacher will help students encounter Torah, Tanakh, Rabbinic literature, and Jewish thought as living sources of wisdom and meaning, and will inspire students to see themselves as inheritors of a great intellectual and moral tradition.
Core Responsibilities
- Teach Judaics courses for middle and high school students (grades 5–12).
- Lead students through close reading and interpretation of classical Jewish texts including Tanakh and Rabbinic sources.
- Develop students’ ability to analyze texts carefully and articulate interpretations clearly in both discussion and writing.
- Teach Jewish history and thought as part of an integrated understanding of Jewish civilization.
- Help students understand the moral and philosophical ideas that shape Jewish life and tradition.
- Contribute to school assemblies, holidays, rituals, and the broader Jewish culture of the school.
- Collaborate with Hebrew and Humanities faculty to support an integrated curriculum.
Qualifications
- Degree in Jewish Studies, Judaics, History, Philosophy, or a related field.
- Strong background in classical Jewish texts.
- Ability to teach texts in Hebrew preferred.
- Experience teaching middle or high school students with warmth, structure, and high expectations.
- Commitment to Jewish life and alignment with Emet’s mission.
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in teaching a curriculum that is highly intentional and integrated.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching across the middle and upper grades, including advanced coursework through Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB/BC, and Statistics, and can inspire students to see mathematics as a discipline rooted in logic, wonder, and problem-solving.

- Teach a range of Middle and Upper School math courses, potentially including:
- Pre-Algebra & Algebra I
- Geometry
- Algebra II
- Pre-Calculus
- AP Calculus AB/BC
- AP Statistics
- Develop clear, sequenced, and challenging curriculum informed by classical pedagogy.
- Utilize a balance of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment of the math sequence.
- Provide thoughtful, timely feedback that promotes mastery and student confidence.
- Serve as an advisor and contribute to school culture, assemblies, and community life.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s or advanced coursework strongly preferred.

Middle and High School US History Teacher

Overview
Emet Classical Academy seeks a passionate American History Teacher to teach 8th-grade U.S. History and 11th-grade Advanced American History. This teacher will help students understand the American story—its founding ideals, complexities, triumphs, and ongoing debates—through primary sources, chronological narrative, and classical inquiry.
Core Responsibilities
- Teach American History in both middle and upper school, including:
- Grade 8: Early American History through Reconstruction
- Grade 11: Advanced American History / AP U.S. History–aligned course
- Guide students in close reading of primary sources including founding documents, speeches, letters, and case studies.
- Lead Socratic discussions that develop historical reasoning and respectful discourse.
- Integrate geography, civics, and constitutional thought into instruction.
- Assess student writing with a focus on clarity, evidence, and argumentation.
- Contribute to the Humanities team and participate in advising and school culture.
Qualifications
- Degree in History, American Studies, Political Science, or related field.
- Ability to teach both middle-level narrative history and upper-level analytical coursework.
- Strong background in primary-source methods and classical pedagogy.
